RolaKnives was born from a love of fine food and passion for the rituals of cooking. There is something so comforting about bringing together raw ingredients by cutting, mixing, and spicing to prepare a beautiful and delicious meal for sharing with family and friends.
There has been an increasing awareness around understanding where our ingredients come from, or even growing our own. But we believe that it is just as important to understand our tools. The knife was human's first tool, and we hope to spread an appreciation for using handcrafted knives when preparing our meals.
All of our knives are handmade by master craftsman Rolando Negoita in his scenic shop at the foot of the Catskill Mountains of New York. With over 50 years of experience in metalworking, woodworking, and design, Rolando uses locally sourced materials and puts careful attention into each blade, ensuring the highest quality and standing behind each knife with a lifetime warranty. Rolando has also worked with numerous chefs to develop highly functional, yet novel, cutlery designs that can't be found anywhere else.
Rolando was born in Transylvania, a region of Romania with a long tradition of craftsmanship, rooting his skills in many family generations. Rolando is a graduate of the Romanian Academy of Fine Arts, Bucharest, and spends some of his time as an associate professor, teaching metalsmithing and product design at Parsons School of Design in New York City. Rolando may occasionally be spotted climbing the rock cliffs of the Shawangunk Mountains or tending to his wood-fired sourdough bread. Click here to contact us with any questions or comments. We'd love to hear from you.
